Anthology of Short Stories
On May 14th , 2025, the University main conference hall was filled with celebration and intellectual energy during the debut launch of Phoebe Nadupoi’s anthology of short stories "The Rescued Girl".
The event was honoured by the chief guest, Narok County Secretary Mr. John Mayian Tuya who represented the Governor H.E Hon. Patrick Ole Ntutu, along with other key county representatives and guests.
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Innovation and Outreach Professor Francis Mburu, represented the the Vice Chancellor.
The event was coordinated, planed and executed through the School of Arts, Humanities , social sciences and creative industries led by the Dean Professor Bernard Kodak.
The speakers led by the chief guest hailed the book as a powerful tool for empowerment, development and growth. The book’s themes are not only subtle reflection of modern society but also a critical critique of a generation increasingly drifting away from the habit of reading.
A highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring Nuria Bookshop, fellow authors, University lecturers, and top student writers, which sparked dynamic conversations about the viability of writing as a full-time career and the future of African literature.
In addition to donating 10 copies of the book for the University library , the author gifted the University two pieces of artistic drawings.
Nadupoi said that there was no better place to launch her book than Maasai Mara University.
Prof. Mburu praised Nadupoi for the courage to write . “The future is bright ; this is just level one. You have the ground to sand on and that is Maasai Mara University”.
The Vice-Chancellor’s message described the book as a message of hope and empowerment.
The book is not only another paper and ink bound together but a journey, and a message of hope that inspires anyone daring to dream out loud.
The event left memories and celebration of words that matter.
