UNIVERSITY TVET BOOSTED

In a powerful show of commitment to education and youth empowerment, Senator Ledama Olekina has sponsored 100 students to the University Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institute (TVETI) programs under the MaaCom Youth Project focused on bridging the education gap within the Maa community by providing access to technical skills training.
Today, Senator Ledama Olekina visited the selected beneficiaries at the University to motivate, inspire and ensure their wellbeing is taken care of and that they are exposed to the best and most conducive environment.
The senator’s visit follows a community empowerment event held in Eor Ekule last month, where he awarded scholarships to the said needy students from the Maa community to study at Masai Mara University TVET. The students were enrolled in a six-month TVET program, with a focus on agribusiness and artificial intelligence (AI) fields identified as key to unlocking future income generating opportunities for the region's youth.
The beneficiaries selected from various parts of the county has reported to the University and undergoing orientation programme.
Today’s event brought together the new students, University staff, and instructors. They were led by TVET Director Prof. Stella Kirui, Acting Registrar Academics, Mr. John Maera, Acting Registrar, Program Coordinator, Mr. Amadi Orucho, Senior Librarian, Rahab Koech, Senior Librarian, alongside other staff and trainers
The students shared personal testimonies of how the opportunity had already begun shaping their ambitions. In her remarks, Prof. Stella officially welcomed the senator and praised his dedication to community transformation through education. Addressing the students, Senator Ledama stressed the values of discipline, commitment, and loyalty. He urged the learners to remain focused, reminding them that they represent not only themselves but also their families and the larger community.
“You must take this chance seriously. Your determination will determine your future, and the skills you acquire here will be your tools for change,” he said.
He further called on the trainers and staff to teach with passion and purpose, highlighting the importance of mentorship in the students’ journey. As part of his long-term plan, Senator Ledama revealed the upcoming construction of a training camp that would create employment opportunities for the graduates, enabling them to continue applying their skills beyond the classroom. The orientation set a hopeful tone for the months ahead as the students embark on their training journey, fully backed by both institutional support and community leadership.
This initiative not only highlights the senator’s dedication to education but also underscores the role of institutions and grassroots organizations in shaping the future of marginalized communities through forward-looking skills-based training.
