Fruits of Collaboration The University Hosts the Curve Bend East Africa Team for Collaborative Research Engagement

“ It brings together researchers and institutions from Kenya, Tanzania, the Netherlands, and Argentina to co-create sustainable solutions for rangeland management and community resilience”

Maasai Mara University is proud to host the Curve Bend East Africa Team on October 30th and 31st, marking a significant milestone in international collaboration on biodiversity and sustainable rangeland management.
The event brings together twenty distinguished guests from leading institutions — the University of Groningen, Leiden University, Wageningen University (the Netherlands), and the College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka (Tanzania).
The visiting delegation is part of the Curve Bend Consortia, a multidisciplinary partnership implementing an NWO-funded project under the Dutch Research Council (NWO) Research along Routes by Consortia (NWA-ORC) Programme. Maasai Mara University secured a KSh 115 million grant through this initiative, underscoring its growing leadership in research and innovation.
Led by Dr. Jedidah Nankaya, the project focuses on bending biodiversity loss through collective action. It brings together researchers and institutions from Kenya, Tanzania, the Netherlands, and Argentina to co-create sustainable solutions for rangeland management and community resilience.
The event has drawn participation from key stakeholders and partners, including the Narok County Government, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), the Loita Rangeland Management Collective Committee, and Noolaramutak from Tanzania. These partnerships highlight the importance of inclusive, community-driven approaches to environmental stewardship. In attendance are top university officials: Prof. James ole Nampushi (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Finance and Strategy), Prof. Francis Mburu (Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Outreach), Dr. Patrick Waweru Kamundia (Dean, School of Natural Resources, Environmental Studies and Agriculture), Dr. Edward Kateyia (Director, Public Relations and Marketing), alongside other esteemed members of staff. This collaborative engagement reaffirms Maasai Mara University’s commitment to advancing research that promotes biodiversity conservation, community empowerment, and sustainable development across East Africa and beyond.
