Future Leaders Challenge Eastern Africa 2026!
Maasai Mara University has emerged the overall winner at the Future Leaders Challenge Eastern Africa, held in Nairobi on October 26–27, 2026, earning recognition for its innovative approach to accessible tourism.
The two-day event brought together tourism and hospitality students, educators, industry leaders, and policymakers, with students representing 30 universities from 12 countries across Eastern Africa. The challenge provided a platform for young innovators to showcase ideas on how tourism and hospitality can create inclusive opportunities for young people, particularly women and persons with disabilities, through relevant skills development, access to decent employment, and entrepreneurship.
Graced by the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, the event celebrated innovation, inclusion, and the role of young people in shaping the future of the tourism and hospitality industry.
Maasai Mara University’s winning innovation on accessible tourism stood out for its focus on making tourism more inclusive and accessible to all. This remarkable achievement has earned the team an opportunity to represent the region alongside other regional winners at the global finals in Dubai.
The winning team comprises four fourth-year students from the School of Tourism and Hospitality:
Cyndy Onyango, Derrick Mwangi, Mariam Karisa, Stephanie Otieno.
The students were mentored by Dr Justus Muchiri and Dr Catherine Kifworo, whose guidance supported the team throughout the challenge.
This achievement underscores Maasai Mara University’s commitment to nurturing innovation, empowering young talent, and promoting inclusive and sustainable tourism solutions.
Congratulations to our student innovators and their mentors! Your achievement makes MMARAU proud as you prepare to take your innovation to the global stage in Dubai.
