Vice-Chancellor Launches CBET Capacity Building for Academic Staff
“academic staff in a transformative professional development programme"
The Vice-Chancellor, Peninah Aloo-Obudho, officially launched a five-day Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) Capacity Building Workshop for academic staff at Maasai Mara University. The training on the CBET Delivery Methodology, facilitated by the Kenya School of TVET, is taking place from March 9 to March 13, 2026.
The workshop brings together academic staff in a transformative professional development programme aimed at preparing the University for Kenya’s evolving education system as institutions transition to Competency-Based Education.
During the opening of the training, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of shifting from content-based teaching to a learning approach that promotes critical thinking, collaboration, and competence development.
The training focuses on key institutional priorities, including realigning degree programmes to CBE competencies, shifting from lecture-heavy teaching to competency-based learning that responds to industry needs, and building faculty capacity to support the transition from the 8-4-4 Education System to a competency-based framework.
