Maasai Mara University inaugural Run

On April 5th, 2026, Maasai Mara University successfully hosted its inaugural University Run under the theme of promoting tourism, preserving culture, conserving the natural environment, and advancing climate action. The event attracted strong participation from sponsors, university management, staff, students, and the local community.
Key sponsors included KCB, KenGen, PrideInn Hotels, Masai Camp Mara, GenAfrica, Athletics Kenya, Kenya Red Cross Society, Olive Hotel, Medicatia Hospital, Lnnyson Hotel, Maasai Mara University SACCO, NARWASCO, Octagon, and UASU.
The run commenced at approximately 8:30 AM and featured various race categories to accommodate different fitness levels, including 10 km, 6 km, 4 km, and 2 km races, as well as a children’s fun run. Participation by Morans added a distinct cultural element, highlighting the richness of Maa heritage.
The 10 km race was flagged off by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peninah Aloo-Obudho, in the presence of University Council members Dr. Susan Chebet and Dr. Agnes Busienei, alongside representatives from key sponsor organizations including KCB, KenGen, PrideInn Hotels, Kenya Red Cross Society, GenAfrica, Athletics Kenya, Medicatia Hospital, Olive Hotel, Lnnyson Hotel, Maasai Mara University SACCO, NARWASCO, Octagon, and UASU, demonstrating strong institutional and stakeholder support.
The 6 km race was flagged off by KCB Narok Branch Manager Mr. Stanley Kirui alongside Ms. Jemutai Ellsie, Communication Officer from KenGen.
 
 
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peninah Aloo-Obudho, also participated in the 2 km race and emerged as the winner, demonstrating leadership in promoting sports and wellness.
A tree-planting exercise was conducted as part of the event, reinforcing the commitment to environmental conservation and climate action.
Overall, the Maasai Mara University Run successfully brought together stakeholders to promote fitness, cultural heritage, environmental awareness, and community engagement, laying a strong foundation for future editions.
