Maasai Mara University Artificial Intelligence Training

Maasai Mara University held a two-week, university-wide AI training program for all staff to enhance institutional capacity and align operations with the University’s Strategic Plan.
The training was officially inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Penina Aloo-Obudho, along with University Council members CPA Dickson Malanga Shikanga and Dr. Susan Chebet.
In her remarks, Prof. Aloo-Obudho highlighted AI as a crucial driver of institutional excellence and urged staff to embrace a lifelong learning mindset. She emphasized AI’s importance to the University’s main areas—tourism, environmental resource management, and conservation—and noted its growing role in the hospitality industry. The Council members praised the initiative as timely and vital for preparing staff for emerging digital challenges.
The program was led by Eng. A. Alex Dhanjal, an international advisor from Canada under the Catalyste+ Program, who brought extensive expertise in technology and governance.
The training covered several key areas, including an introduction to general AI applications, AI for leadership and management, AI in teaching and research, AI for administrative efficiency, AI fundamentals for all staff, and strategies for AI adoption at the university.

Led by Prof. Paul Maithya, the program focused on building fundamental AI literacy, encouraging ethical and responsible AI use, and promoting innovation-driven decision-making throughout the institution. Staff were motivated to apply the knowledge and skills they gained to improve service delivery and increase the University’s overall impact.
