14th Mara Day Scientific Conference
“ The celebration brought together diverse partners, scientists, opinion leaders, researchers, policy makers, donors and conservation experts”
The 14th Mara Day Scientific Conference was held on 14th September at Mwalimu Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology (MNUAT). This was on the third Day of Mara River celebration , 2025.
Leaders, partners and stakeholders participated , presented papers, show-cased innovations and exhibitions and held joint meetings.
Permanent Sectary for Water, Tanzania Eng. Mwajuma Waziri, guest of honor officially opened the conference . She lauded the Tanzania–Kenya cooperation in safeguarding the Mara River Basin and reiterated that the conferences redresses challenges facing Mara river Basin and is a forum for possible solution. “ The conference builds a bridge between ideas, policies and implementation,” she said.
Engineer Waziri stressed on the need for awareness creation, empowerment, fund raising and use of indigenous knowledge in conservation. She urged for publication of the conference abstract.



The guest speaker Dr. Musuto Wachirangi emphasized on the use of technology, importance of culture, participatory involvement of the local people, effective planning, implementation of research findings and joint management committees among other strategies in conservation of Mara River .
“ The axe cannot be a friend of the forest just because it has a wooden handle, “ Dr. Wachirangi said on the importance of having collective initiatives and like-minded partners and collaboration efforts in conservation. The conference reflects resilience, innovation, and shared responsibility in conservation of the environment and the Global Biodiversity Framework. The University was awarded a certificate for excellent work in Conservation and for being an active partner in the event. The same was also extended to various individuals from the Institution for their excellent work. Upon closing of the conference, all the partners converged at the Le’Grand Musoma for a sumptuous Gala Night.
