SUMMARY:Stakeholders’ Workshop on Environment and Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) in the Greater Maasai Mara Ecosystem (GMME)
DESCRIPTION:Human–Wildlife Conflicts (HWC) have emerged as one of the most pressing challenges in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. \nEngagement with stakeholders—ranging from local communities and conservation practitioners to policymakers and non-governmental organizations—alongside scientists\, offers a pathway for refining HWC models into robust\, contextually grounded tools. Stakeholders contribute invaluable experiential knowledge\, perceptions of risk\, and insights into socio-economic realities\, while scientists bring methodological rigor\, ecological expertise\, and analytical innovations. Such co-production of knowledge ensures that models are not only scientifically credible but also socially legitimate and operationally relevant (Reed et al.\, 2014). Moreover\, participatory model development fosters trust\, ownership\, and adaptive capacity\, thereby increasing the likelihood of sustained implementation of conflict mitigation measures. \nEvent Programme follow the link or scan the qr code below; \nhttps://www.mmarau.ac.ke/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/GMME_Modeling_Programme_Prof_Cedric_Oct_2025_Final1.pdf

SUMMARY:STRENGTHENING PREVENTION AND EQUITY IN PRIMARY CARE
DESCRIPTION:PUBLIC LECTURE; STRENGTHENING PREVENTION AND EQUITY IN PRIMARY CARE: COMMUNITY LED SYSTEMS THINKING \nSeeromanie Harding is Professor of Social Epidemiology at King’s College London. She is the Joint Head of Department of Population Health Sciences in the School of Life Course & Population Sciences which is part of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine. Her expertise spans social and ethnic inequalities in health over the life course\, international comparative studies\, and community-based interventions in low resource settings. \nProfessor Harding has a keen interest in using community-based participatory methods and systems perspectives to engage with the complex socio-cultural-political contexts that drive health disparities. In collaboration with local colleagues\, she is the UK lead of  the CONTACT (Congregations Taking Action Against Non-communicable Diseases) study which seeks to integrate places of worship into the primary care pathway in Guyana\, Jamaica and Dominica; the HEKIMA (Health Kiosks in Markets) study in Kenya which seeks to strengthen the primary care system using health kiosks in community markets for prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases; and the IMPACT (Implementation of a multisectoral programme to improve Indigenous adolescent mental health) study in Brazil and Dominica which focuses on co-designing interventions to address the physical and mental health of indigenous adolescents. Interdisciplinary perspectives\, community engagement and collaborative partnerships with policy actors and practitioners are key anchors for these studies to engage communities in health promotion\, research\, and policy making. Many of these principles underpin the London-based BELONG (Beauty and Health Community Lounges) study which is developing a partnership between hairdressers and local primary care to promote screening for cardiovascular diseases in ethnically dense and deprived neighbourhoods. \nNOTE: This will be a hybrid public lecture (University Main Hall & Online) available to all staff\, faculty\, students\, and the community at large. \nRVSP: Kennedy Karani Onyiko| onyiko@mmarau.ac.ke|+254727724579 \nVideo call link: https://meet.google.com/fsz-jgut-aaf
