Mabwoga has research and practical experience in remote sensing (RS) techniques such as image processing and analysis, knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and GIS software such as ArcGIS, Surfer and IDRISI, practical knowledge in handling Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and applications on field surveys and sampling, strong background in field and laboratory methods on sampling and analysis of water, soil and vegetation He possesses computer skills – applications related to MS Office, Internet, Windows OS, has practical knowledge in programming skills (C++, C and FORTRAN 7, knowledge of HTML and JavaScript).
Research Activities
He has been awarded a research grant (USD 12000) under “Assessment of impacts of climate change vulnerability of biophysical and socioeconomic systems with particular emphasis on gender responsiveness and critical ecosystems in Africa” by the International Council for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) in 2015 a project which ended in 2018; Has been awarded a research grant on tracking trends in the water quality of large water pans in Narok County, Kenya; and a USD 3600 Field Work grant and donations of water sampling equipment in collaboration with University of British Columbia among others; Dr. Mabwoga has also been involved in a GroundTruth project – Home – Ground Truth 2.0 (gt20.eu) (funded by EU_H2020 (led by Uta When of IHE DELFT, which closed in Dec 2019) of the European Union Citizen Science activities for Climate Change, Livelihoods and Biodiversity Management in the Mara Basin, Narok, Kenya (Balancing sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity management – Ground Truth 2.0 (gt20.eu)) where 6 Citizen Observatories were set up and validated in Africa and EU. Currently, Dr. Mabwoga is (and Prof. Romulus Abila – Maasai Mara University) working on a project (worth USD 35000) on Plankton species diversity and population dynamics in a highly fluctuating arid and semi-arid tropical freshwater landscape, with a Research Grant from The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
He has published peer reviewed articles- https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=L_Ae2x8AAAAJ&hl=en), attended and participated in more than 12 conferences and workshops – national and international. He is also a reviewer (Mabwoga, Samson – Web of Science Core Collection) of the following journals – [Applied Remote Sensing, Ecological Engineering (Elsevier), Ecological Indicators (Elsevier), Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (Springer), Remote Sensing of Environment (Elsevier) – https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8234-6608] and a Member, Curriculum Review Board and Examination Coordinator (Department of Environment, Geography and Agriculture in the School of Natural Resources, Tourism and Hospitality, Maasai Mara University).
