I welcome you to Maasai Mara University—a place where knowledge, culture, and innovation come together for sustainable development and global impact.
Maasai Mara University is a public higher education institution located in Narok County, about 150 kilometers southwest of Nairobi, near the gateway to the famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The university is guided by a bold vision: a university focused on innovation and empowerment for societal transformation, with a mission to provide quality education through teaching, research, innovation, and community outreach. Its core values include excellence, innovation, productivity, accountability, collaboration, and equity.
Drawing strength from its unique geographical and cultural setting, the University has developed five distinctive research pillars—the Maasai Mara Game Reserve Ecosystem, the Mara River, the Mau Forest, Maasai Culture, and Maombi kwa Wote. These “Five Ms” provide an interdisciplinary framework that anchors our commitment to research, innovation, and community outreach that are relevant, impactful, and solutions-oriented.
Through teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Maasai Mara University makes meaningful contributions to economic growth, social development, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation at both local and national levels. In collaboration with key partners, including government agencies such as the National Museums of Kenya, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, the State Department for Housing, the Narok County Government, and other stakeholders, the University plays a critical role in promoting environmental stewardship and sustainable natural resource management and conservation.
The University comprises seven schools that offer market-driven academic programmes that respond to national development priorities and emerging global trends. The university has a special focus on becoming a leading entrepreneurial university in the region and beyond. These schools include the School of Education; the School of Pure and Applied and Sciences; the School of Health Sciences, the School of Business and Economics; the School of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Creative Industries; the School of Natural Resources, Environmental Studies and Agriculture; and the School of Tourism and Hospitality.
