Urban and Regional Planning is a creative inter-disciplinary process that deals with both the natural and human dimensions of the world around us. It is concerned with the diversity, productivity, and vitality of our economy, communities, and natural systems, with a focus on people and the places where they live, work, and play.
Planners do design for the future by seeking to improve human prospects in the face of rapid economic, environmental, political, and technological changes. They help to make sense of the changing world and design solutions that are innovative, feasible, just, democratic, and sustainable. Planners reconcile conflicting interests by finding common ground to help people create innovative options, and then implement agreed upon solutions.
Planners design cities and urban areas that are innovative and exciting, full of character, and have aesthetic appeal. They also design efficient transport systems, create neighbourhoods that are safe and affordable, design productive rural areas with vibrant communities, and help create natural areas that conserve indigenous flora and fauna, providing opportunities for recreation, contemplations and solitude.
2.7.1 Admission Requirements
In addition to meeting the minimum general university admission requirements into the Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning, applicants must have obtained:
a) A mean grade of C+ (C Plus) at KCSE. In addition, the candidate must have scored at least a Grade B (Minus) in at least three of their subjects in Geography, Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Economics, Fine Art, Agriculture, Biology, English, Business Studies, History, Religious studies and Computer Science
b) ‘A’ level school leavers with a minimum of division three in the Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) with at least credit passes in the subjects listed above and two principal passes in high school;
c) Those who have not directly qualified for a direct entry for a degree course at high school, but have attained a Diploma in environmental studies/Architecture/
d) Those who attained the minimum B- mean KCSE grade, did not qualify on subject requirements, but have upgraded in relevant subjects listed in (a) above from a recognised institution.
e) Applicants who are Diploma holders in Environmental studies/ Architecture/Engineering/
Applicants who are holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) or Advanced Diploma in environmental studies/Architecture/
