Maasai Mara University wants to forge partnership with Marsabit County Government

The County Government of Marsabit is all- prepared to partner with investors willing to invest within its borders as long as the benefits accruing from that investment would in the long run take the county to the next level.

This affirmation was made today in the morning (Wednesday) by the county governor, Ambassador Ukur Yatani, when he received a high-level entourage from Maasai Mara University who visited him at his office with the express brief of forging partnership with Marsabit County on some key areas. These key areas include; animal husbandry, human health, hospitality, wildlife conservation, education and herbal medicine.

Professor Philip G. Ngunjiri (the university chancellor) who led the university council delegation revealed that the centerpiece of the envisaged partnership involved an investor who approached the university to help him identify a potential county where he could partner with for a period of time. The University subsequently, settled for Marsabit County, Prof. Ngunjiri disclosed. Source

Varsities should offer courses that meet Kenya’s needs – Ruto

“As government, we are focusing our investments in training targeted at industrialisation to create job opportunities for millions of Kenyans,” said Mr Ruto.

“Academicians should therefore align their programmes to target job creation, wealth and opportunities for the graduands. We can’t achieve this through guesswork but by design,” added the deputy president.

Mr Ruto said the government has used Sh1.1 billion in supporting the infrastructural development of Maasai Mara University and that Sh250 million will be further committed to help in the construction of the institution’s library. Source

Maasai Mara University Ladies’ Hostels

The project design and planning began well and our architects controlled the entire architectural programming from design, specifications, finished materials (e.g., brick, paint, wall covering, etc.), and other architectural features of the university’s hostels. In addition, they supervised the engineers responsible for the structural, mechanical, electrical, and lighting design of the project. Our engineers conformed to the design requirements of the architects to make the project a successful one.

Matiang’i appoints 22 new councils of public universities

Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i has constituted 22 new councils of public universities following the expiry of tenure of the incumbents.

Former Kenya Power Managing Director, Dr. Ben Chumo will head Egerton University, Dr. Jane Nyakang’o for Dedan Kimathi University of Technology while Dr. Timothy Mwangi Kiruhi will head University of Nairobi.

Others appointed are Prof. Shem Adholla (Kenyatta University), Dr. Jeremiah Ntoloi Koshal (Moi), Dr. Morompi Ole-Renkei (Taita Taveta University), Dr. Musangi Jane Mutua (Pwani University) and Dr. Kevit Desai (Technical University of Mombasa).

Dr. Halima Saado Abdillahi will head Technical University of Kenya, Dr. Ephraim Mukisira (Kisii University), Dr. David Ojakaa (University of Eldoret), Dr. Julius Tangus Rotich (Chuka University), Dr. Jeremy Bundi (Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology), Dr. Samuel Ochola (Maasai Mara University) and Dr. Walter Ongeti (Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology). Matiang’i appoints six KUCCPS board members

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has appointed new members to the board of Kenya Universities and Colleges Central placement service (KUCCPS) ending a row over the legality of the board.

In a gazette notice dated March 13, Dr Matiang’i appointed new six members to replace those whose terms have expired.

Technical University of Kenya Vice-chancellor Francis Aduol and his Maasai Mara University counterpart Mary Walingo have been appointed to represent public universities. Source
