The programme shall be known as a Ph.D. in Land Resource Management
Philosophy of the Programme
The Ph.D. programme in Land Resource Management is focused on training and developing capacity on managing, use, and development of land resources as well as producing graduates who are well equipped to meet the challenges of management and use of land in the 21st century. It is also aimed at producing human resources who will form leaders to manage the resources for County as well as national government(s)
The rationale of the Programme
Agriculture is the mainstay of the Kenyan people and important in the country’s economy where land as a natural resource forms the basis of agriculture. In this regard, for the attainment of agricultural development, the land resources must be managed and developed sustainably. The management and development require skilled manpower at all levels. Therefore, in this regard, a programme has been developed to keep in line the requirements of the market so that graduates are trained and capacitated on managing, use, and development of land resources as well as to meet the challenges of management and use of land to produce graduates.

Develop knowledge that will be of significance to the development and management of natural resources (land
The expected learning outcomes of the Programme will be;
At the completion of the students’ thesis, the students should be able to have generated and disseminate knowledge and innovation to make a contribution
a) To the wise utilization of land resources including but not limited to land reclamation and rehabilitation, protection of the land resources, irrigation and afforestation and agroforestry.
b) In areas which will be achieving the food self-sufficiency target of the County and in the Country
c) In refining and advance knowledge in various aspects of land resources and environmental protection
d) To conduct demand-driven, problem solving and action-oriented research projects in the field of Land Resources Management
e) Contribute to the intellectual, cultural, social and economic development of the community
There shall be no specialization in the programme but students shall conduct their research in the broad areas of Land Resources Management
Mode of Delivery of the Programme
i) The programme shall be delivered through an independent three (3) year original research.
ii) The Ph.D. programme shall not involve course work.
Admission Requirements for the Proposed Programme
To qualify for admission into a Doctor of Philosophy programme, a candidate shall be a
Holders of a relevant Masters degree of Maasai Mara University. OR
Holders of a relevant Masters degree from any other accredited University recognized by Maasai Mara University Senate as equivalent to (i) above. OR
iii. Holder of other qualifications considered by the Senate as equivalent to a relevant Masters degree.
In addition to the Master's degree, the candidate shall normally have a Bachelors degree.
In addition to the above, applicants must meet the specific requirements of the doctoral degree programme as approved by the senate
In addition to fulfilling the common university regulations, an applicant for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Land Resources Management should hold a Masters of Land Resources Management, Masters of Urban and Regional Planning, Masters of Science degree in (Environmental Studies, Wildlife, Forestry, Agriculture, Land Economics, Law, Sociology, Tourism, Natural Resource Management, Geography) or its equivalent from a University recognized by Maasai Mara University.
vii. Other academic regulations as prescribed by the Directorate of Post Graduate Studies shall apply.
Regulations on Credit Transfer in a programme
There shall be no transfer of credits in this program.
The Ph.D. thesis shall be graded as either PASS or FAIL.
Classification of Degrees
The Ph.D. degree shall not be classified.
