With more than 2M international tourist arrivals, over 1.5 billion US Destimated tourism receipts and almost 4M domestic bed nights, it’s clear that the tourism industry in Kenya is thriving and the future of the sector is bright. Accordingly, the Department of Tourism, Hospitality Management strives to ensure that we provide the opportunities, tools and the knowledge and skills for tourism, hospitality and leisure professionals. Through the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning, research and outreach programs that are globally competitive and committed to economic and social advancements, our students become empowered, market-ready leaders, poised to shape the future of the industry. The tourism, hospitality management industry in Kenya and elsewhere in the world awaits dynamic thinkers, leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, executive chefs, hoteliers, tour and travel operators, tour and travel guides, strategists, policymakers, researchers, and industry disruptors. The Department wishes to play its role in the development of talent in our country and beyond as we take the lead in the sector. The Department currently offers Diploma in Tourism and Wildlife Management, Bachelor of Hotels and Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Tourism Management, and Bachelor of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Management. Additionally, the Department is in the process of developing two Master’s programs: Tourism Management and Hospitality Management. The Department also focuses on growing its research output as well as meeting the local community and other relevant stakeholders at their point of need to provide technical expertise and other related support systems through collaborations and partnerships for mutual benefits of all parties. The Department aspires to become a symbol of excellence in tourism, hospitality and leisure studies in Kenya and globally.
